“The original layout had an outdated island that blocked movement and cut off sightlines to the porch and backyard,” shares Pedro Ormeno, owner of Ormeno Construction. “We decided to remove the island and place a new bar along the adjacent wall, allowing the kitchen to flow naturally into the porch.”
With two new bar areas—one for seating and another as a pass-through from the cooktop—the space now feels connected and inviting, perfect for family gatherings and entertaining.
Sustainable Choices: Repurposing Solid Wood Cabinets
A standout feature of this remodel is the decision to keep and repurpose the original solid wood cabinets, blending environmental consciousness with design practicality. “We love that the homeowners wanted to retain the original cabinets,” Pedro notes. “They’re high-quality solid wood, and with some refinishing and adjustments by our team, they’ll look just as stunning as brand-new custom cabinets. It’s a fantastic way to maintain the home’s character while reducing waste.”
