We invested in the hardwood flooring; it was something the homeowner really wanted, and we could justify the budget allotment because we knew how much the hardwood floors would deliver. The wood floors brighten the room and add that warmth you can only get from natural wood”
The old cabinets were in rough shape, so repainting wasn't an option. Pedro explains,
"Sometimes, it's better to replace than patch up. These new cabinets are budget-friendly, but they'll hold up for years. That's what you want—a long-term solution, not a quick fix."
We installed new hardwood flooring to add warmth and structure. Pedro adds,
"Flooring sets the tone for the whole kitchen. With the right wood, you can elevate the space without overspending."
A clean, neutral color was used to brighten the room and make it feel more spacious.
Instead of going with costly stone options, we selected an alternative material that's practical and fits the space. It's not flashing, but it will hold up.
“The homeowner chose this gray material, but you could also go with a laminate or more trendy butcher’s block counter. There are options at every price point. You have to find the balance, which is cost-effective and durable and in styles that match your kitchen aesthetic,” says Pedro.

“A realistic budget for a kitchen remodel depends on what you want or, in some cases, need to accomplish. For a small kitchen like this, you can expect to spend $8,000 to $15,000 for a quality remodel. The numbers will go up fast if you want custom finishes or top-of-the-line materials. But for most folks, sticking with tried-and-true options works just fine.”
It can be, depending on your goals. In this project, we went a little over $10,000 to ensure the cabinets were entirely replaced rather than repainted. Pedro points out:
“Painting cabinets is cheaper, but if they’re falling apart or not worth saving, you’re better off investing in replacements. It’s about value—you don’t want to cut corners on something that needs fixing in a few years.”
Pedro’s advice for staying on budget is simple:
“Keep what works, and only change what needs fixing. Many folks think they need to gut the kitchen, but small updates can make a big difference. We also recommend you steer clear of cheap anything. In the construction world, cheap means you will have to do it again soon, and thats not cost-effective.”

"Skip the quartz or marble and go for laminate or butcher block counters."
