In this recent Mount Kisco bathroom renovation, we had the pleasure of partnering with a homeowner living in a beautiful pre-war era apartment — a space filled with character and classic architectural details. One of the standout features was a semi-circular ceiling arch over the shower, which the homeowner asked us to preserve. We were more than happy to accommodate that vision and built the design around maintaining the apartment’s historic charm while integrating modern function and durability.
The bathroom’s updated design strikes a clean, polished balance between old and new. The homeowner chose light tones and traditional materials, including:
- White subway tile wrapping the shower walls for a crisp, timeless feel
- Basketweave mosaic tile on the floor — an elegant nod to vintage style, adding texture and visual interest
- Dark brushed metal fixtures, which subtly echo the black accents in the floor tile and tie the entire design together
We also incorporated two custom features that added both comfort and usability to the space:
- A built-in bench for practical seating or storage
- An inset wall niche for easy access to bath essentials without disrupting the clean lines of the tilework
Because this was an apartment renovation — where space, weight, and waterproofing are especially critical — the Wedi Fundo® Shower System was once again the clear choice. The homeowner wanted a worry-free, fully waterproof shower, and the Wedi kit allowed us to deliver exactly that, along with seamless integration of the bench and niche.
- Work around the existing structural challenges including ceiling detail
- Ensure long-term moisture protection in a shared-wall environment
- Customize layout and tile prep with clean transitions and tight tolerances
- Keep installation time efficient and on schedule — ideal in a multi-unit building
The finished bathroom feels fresh, refined, and functional, while still honoring the style and soul of the original apartment. The homeowner was thrilled to get exactly the look, feel, and function they had envisioned — a modern, comfortable space layered with timeless details.
