The red oak floors are fully installed and are already bringing warmth and character to the kitchen, even before their final finish. We’ve carefully blended these new floors with the home’s existing oak, ensuring a seamless transition that honors the home’s original charm.
“This blending process takes experience and close attention to detail,” explains Pedro Ormeno. “We focus on matching tones, grain, and finish so the flow from the kitchen to adjoining rooms feels natural and unbroken.”
Once stained and sealed, these floors will create a sophisticated yet welcoming foundation, enhancing the open layout and setting the stage for the custom elements yet to come.
Is a wood floor in the kitchen a good idea?
Pedro Ormeno explains:
“Hardwood can be a great choice for the kitchen, though there are pros and cons. One of the main advantages of hardwood is its durability. The thick, solid construction of the planks allows for sanding and refinishing whenever signs of wear appear, which is especially useful in high-traffic areas like the kitchen. Of course, kitchens can be harder on floors due to moisture and spills, so sealing the wood properly is key to extending its life. If you love the warmth and character of hardwood, it can be a long-lasting and beautiful option for the kitchen.”
Custom Cabinetry – Fabrication and Repairs
Crafting Custom Cabinets On-Site with Precision
For this Ridgefield kitchen remodel, we’re creating custom cabinets directly on-site, allowing us to match the existing cabinetry seamlessly while making each piece fit the unique specifications of the new layout. Under the guidance of our Master Carpenter, Joel Ormeno, our team is working with high-quality finished wood that complements the existing cabinetry, ensuring continuity in both style and quality.
Building on-site offers a unique advantage: we can craft each cabinet to exact dimensions and specifications, particularly where new cabinets need to integrate with the older, established sections. This attention to detail is crucial, as it allows us to preserve the integrity of the kitchen’s original charm while adding fresh elements that make the space more functional and inviting.
“Creating cabinetry by hand, right here in the kitchen, gives us the ability to make adjustments on the spot,” Joel shares. “It’s a hands-on approach that guarantees a perfect fit and finish.
By working with wood that matches the grain and color of the original cabinetry, we’re making it so the new additions look like they’ve always been a part of this kitchen.”
Once complete, these custom cabinets will enhance the kitchen’s functionality and flow, integrating perfectly with the existing space while adding beautiful, carefully crafted details that elevate the entire design.
Drywall Repairs and Wall Modifications
Our team has also begun patching and repairing drywall throughout the kitchen, preparing the walls for the next stages of cabinetry, appliance installation, and backsplash work.
Next Steps: Appliance Integration and Countertop Templating
In the coming days, we’re excited to welcome the new appliances to the space. Once they’re delivered, we’ll begin working them into the layout to complete the functional flow of the kitchen. Afterward, we’ll start countertop templating to finalize measurements and prepare for installation, allowing us to bring another layer of texture and style to this remodel.
